| 2008: Commuter Cycling Century |
|
|
Welcome to 2008, the best year yet for Bike Journal commuter cyclists. So, how are you doing? Do you have any stories to share? What is motivating you to seek the benchmark of 100 commuting-days or the super-benchmark of 200?
This thread was started by Anquetil63 in 2006. He also started the Commuter Cycling Century club. This thead has inspired many of us to commute more than we ever dreamed was possible. In his words:"The Commuter Cycling Century has a simple goal, one year, 100 days. In other words, each member attempts to ride to and from work on at least 100 days in a 12-month period."
Previous annual threads: 2006 - CCC and the 2007 - CCC
Helpful hint for newcomers: When logging your commutes, be sure to set the "Ride Category" as "Commute". Then you can set up a filter (premier members only) to show only commuting rides---then just divide the number of rides by 2 and you have your commuting-days. This methods avoids counting day-by-day.

Get the body in motion and let's start the commotion commuting.

I was curious how my commuting-days this year (goal = 200) will compare to previous years. This is what I found thanks to Slantz creating filters: 2003 = 1 2004 = 95 2005 = 76 2006 = 90 2007 = 126 Lifetime = 388
That's not too bad for an elderly bald guy, but I can do better. I'm sure that there are folks out there that did 1000+ over the same period.
Who will be the first rider to 25 in 2008?

Here is what I have recorded:
2005 = 131 2006 = 136 2007 = 140 Lifetime = on BJ - 407
I bike commuted for years previous to BJ. Sadly, all those old notes on the back of envelopes have long since vanished, so one can only guess at the results. There were about 3 years since I started riding recumbents, and I rode some earlier in Denver and on Air Force bases. Do we count riding to classes in college?
Just another example of the value of BikeJournal!!

I have commuted an average of over 3 times a week all year.
Lets say I have worked 50 weeks, so that means I have commuted about 160-185 times during 2007
My commute is only one way.
And no I don't buy a new bike every day for the one way -er
Well today is a work day in Israel so my count for 2008 is presently "1"

I realy like this thread... and hope I can get some days posted here, but given I have to get two children into town for school, the days I can commute "there and back" are limited. I do often commute one way though... It'll still be a fun thread to watch however

Right--I'm in for the double. That would be the fourth in four years since I started using BJ on 1/1/2005.

I'm in for a half... I might have hit 30 in 2007, I'll have to go back and check!
(Wow, only 18 official times recorded for '07 -- I thought it was more... Onward to 50!!!)

My target for 2008 is 160, or 90% of my work days when I am not in training, traveling or on leave. I should hit 25 around February 13.

I'm in! I started riding to work in November 2007 and while the mornings can be chilly right now, it will be the summertime that will challenge me... I think I can pull off 100, though!
